The 2008 “Mighty Band From Lion Land” is under the field direction of drum major Julia Faison.
This year, the band boasts over 180 students! Selections for this year’s performance are from the
Rock and Roll Era and include: “Carry On My Wayward Son”, Bon Jovi’s “Wanted Dead or Alive” and
“You Give Love A Bad Name”. The show will conclude with two Michael Jackson’s songs “Thriller” and
the drum solo, “Billy Jean”. The Halftime Show you are about to witness represents hundreds of hours
of instruction and learning…both in and out of the classroom. The Foley Band prides itself in
performing shows that are entertaining and competitive…so stand up, at the end of the performance,
and show your appreciation to all the Foley Band Students on the field tonight!
The Mighty Band From Lion Land has a long tradition of excellence stemming back to the late
1970’s. The concert and marching bands have consistently earned superior ratings for over 30 years.
Past Winter Guard, Winter Drumline and Jazz Bands have earned Regional and National
Championships. Some of the many accolades of the band program include: Bands of America
Regional Finalist / National Hall of Fame Bowl / National Peach Bowl Grand Champions / Boscov’s
Nationally Televised Thanksgiving Day Parade / Loyola Universities National Invitational Grand
Champion / Universal Studios Grand Champion / Fiesta Bowl Parade / National “Grammy Signature”
Awarded Band Program…only 100 band programs in the Nation were awarded this very prestigious
status / Commendations from the Alabama State Senate and the President of the United States.
The Foley Band program has many student leaders who are the main reason we have a

The Foley Band Booster Organization is comprised of band parents from the students in the Foley

The 2007 Marching Band, Concert Bands, Drumline, and Winterguard earned straight superior
ratings. The Marching won overall “Grand Champion Band” at the Hoover Band Invitational. In
addition, the concert band, drumline, and winterguard earned superior ratings at the “Southern Star
Music Festival” in Atlanta, Georgia. The 2008 Marching Band will be traveling to Chicago, Illinois, to
represent the City of Foley, Baldwin County Schools, and the State of Alabama in the 2009 St. Patrick’
s Day Parade. This parade will be nationally televised on WGN television. 2007 was also the year
that the Foley Band introduced its newest ensemble…”Foley Steel”. The Foley Steel Band has quickly
become one of the premier ensembles of the Band program.
The Director of Bands is Mr. Carl Major (Music and Drill Writer) and the associate director is Mr.
Jimmy O’Cain. The color guard instructor is Mr. Copper Atwood. Staff members for the 2008 Foley
Band are: Amanda Major, Brass and Marching Coordinator/ Chris Word, Colorguard Instruction/ Josh
Scalf, Low Brass and Visual Instruction / Ty Lovette, Colorguard Instructor / William Hickok, Drumline
Instruction / Bret Morse, High Brass and Marching Instruction / Jessica Peebles Thompson, High
Brass and Marching / James Crocker, Brass and Visual Coordinator. In addition, the help and support
from all the middle school band directors that are part of the Foley system include Mr. Bobby Malone
from Foley Middle, Mr. Daniel Holmes from Elberta Middle, and the band director from Magnolia and
Summerdale Middle Schools.
The many successes of the Foley Band would not be possible without the support from all of the
Foley High School Administration and Principal Mr. Kenneth Dinges, The Baldwin County School
Board, and Music Supervisor, Mrs. Vicky Cook. The Foley Band would also like to thank Athletic
Director and Head Football Coach Mr. Todd Watson for his support of the Mighty Band From Lion
Land.
